10 google trends to look at

Posted on July 2, 2012 in rand()

Here are some 10 google trends graphs that i found interesting… the topics below are random made out of keywords that came to my head or stuff that i thought were interesting. (google trends and google insights are services from google that let you see the trend around some search keywords, all you have to do is type in some comma separated keywords)

How – Where – When

People are still using google search and possibly the internet mostly to figure out how to get things done – the tiny trend of more “where”s and “when”s shows ,i assume, the new effect of social media where you can now know “where” to go, “When” events and stuff are happening – yet the How – remains by far the one with most volume.

iphone – android – nokia – blackberry

Nokia with the green line have the most “stable” line – with a recent decline happening since 2010.
Iphone in blue has the most volume curve – it never took a dive – showing probably a consistent interest in the iphone.
Android curve is constantly growing all the time as well – and it looks like its search volume will be catching up with the volume of iphone searches. It also bypassed the nokia search volume – and this kinda, imho, reflects that “android” beats “nokia” in the market.

Buy – Sell

a much predictable trend – yap – we are still using the internet to buy stuff
Twitter – Facebook

This one is specially interesting cuz the search volume has such a difference between the curves while the news reference volume is so “close” – journalists are fussing much about twitter i guess (:

Chrome – Firefox – IE

The eternal flame-war between chrome/firefox/IE can be summed up in this graph. IE has a constantly low search volume but a relatively high news reference (Microsoft PR ?)
You can see the interest in Firefox – specially in 2008 around the download day – chrome has steady and rising curve that now overcomes Firefox and shows the increasing interest in using/troubleshooting/downloading/looking up info about chrome.

iPad – Kindle

The interest in the iPad is always on the rise and has some really strong spikes – the only good kindle spike is when the kindle fire was released. Yet it is interesting to notice that interest in kindle is self-sustaining. (spike>>goes back to stable>>spike>>goes back to stable)

Rock – Pop – Jazz – Rap

Seems that the internets is a bunch of metal and rock-heads, pop being next in popularity – then rap and jazz mingle together.
Internet – the place for rockstars!

War – Peace

This is a visual of the sad truth reflecting that humanity is still concerned and worried far most with war then with peace… not a surprise since it basically reflects the few peace making efforts and the too many wars going on in this tiny planet.

Religion and Sex

Other then loving rock n roll – sex and porn volume searches outnumbers religion, jesus and islam keywords combined. One topic to muse on considering the state of this world and the many wars/conflicts caused by words like “islam(ophobia)” + other religious topics – funny that the interest in such topics and their search volume is so low.

Sports

Football remains the king of sports, followed by Basketball – while F1, tennis and baseball have a similar search volume.
