After a 10 years of delays, 3G has been finally introduced to the Lebanese market.
Many employees are tech savy and smart phones have higher specs then most of our computers did a few years back and they are amazing social connectivity devices…

This kinda of easy and cheap connectivity may not be welcomed in the workplace. Companies sometime go to great lengths investing in ISA servers and IT personnel time to block access to some type of content like social networks or to stop employees from leaking data through the internet.

This is why one of the most frequent questions I am being asked recently is: how to block 3G?

I know of a beautiful untold love story, one you cannot watch in a movie, read off dusty book pages or even hear in poetry.

It’s been one long day with endless meetings, trick questions and formalities. It is the day the Quality Control auditors perform their annual visit for a client’s factory and HQ.

This client is using one of my freshly developed solutions for Quality Management… so needless to say the software was put under “scrunity”.

A few days ago, I submitted my application to become an official blogger for ArabNet Digital Summit .

You can translate this into me being a cheapo, saving up some money and spamming you with some adverts posts in exchange of free tickets…bad me!
However this is not really the case because I didn’t really have to become an official blogger to get my free ticket :p I am already participating as a Developer in the Lighting talks aka all i have to do is talk for 5 minutes and get free tickets

So really, why am i bothering so much about the whole official blogger thing while i already got free access?

I was at a client, he asked me how to disable USB sticks/storage – he was using some third party paid software that installs as a service on startup and he wanted an alternative.

Since this is one of the most basic security procedure to disable storage for “users” , i turned to my human Siri aka @battikh000 - and he gave me the following tip

copy and paste this into the command line:

REG ADD “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\USBSTOR” /v Start /t REG_DWORD /d 4 /f

You will need to run cmd as administrator – start, cmd, right click, run as administrator.

and yes, that’s it, it simply works.

I know i am disabling my USB ports and keeping the script handy because i am fedup of people inserting stuff into my ports ;p
