a facebook photo
I held a real picture between my fingertips, one that traveled many miles and brought many faces and places near, it felt a bit like magic… i couldn’t help but dread all those facebook pictures for so many reason…for example:
you can not hold a facebook picture or touch it or hand write a happy thought on its back
you can not be even happy because you managed to “keep it safe after so many long years”
a facebook picture has no sense of location and no feeling of time – something that escapes those 2 elements will not have a sense of an owner
you are not important for your photo, you do not keep it or save it, your photo depends on some machine, a CDN – but not you
you spend time on facebook, on the internet, on your laptop, but you never tell you spent time with someone’s picture – so it does not emotionally change you
an fb pic does not come to your physical space, to your own existence and does not go away
there are too many intermediaries:
a screen that acts as a glass to see thru
a mouse to replace your fingertips with a pointer
a browser to hold it instead of a colorful photo album
a software platform that keeps interrupting with its notifications
a system connected to a buzzing internet luring you away
and mostly there are always other people
