ArabNet Open Overnight Developers Competition

Posted on March 12, 2012 in Events/conferences

Finding talent and developers who can get a job done in just 12-hours is ArabNet’s mission during this digital summit. Investors will be keeping an eye on the Open Developer competition to identify the best engineering talent in the region.

This competition will take place during the Developer Days, part of the ArabNet Digital Summit 2012, from March 27th, at 8PM til 8AM the following day. Competitors are challenged to build a simple web application or a mobile app in just 12-hours!
The exciting part is that it is free and open to any developer, regardless of whether they are registered to attend the conference!

A list of projects will be revealed for competitors to proceed in a tournament-style competition, there will be rounds, finalists, and 4 winners. (You may want to check with the organizers if you submit code, it will still be yours)

Prizes are provided by INTIGRAL.
- 1st place: 2500 US Dollars
- 2nd place: 1500 US Dollars
- 3rd place and 4th place: 500 US Dollars

You can check out the full details and how to sign up here.

So yeah – nothing is more ego boosting then being labeled as a top developer in your region – I am sure you will want bragging rights ;p – and winning this competition is not bad as a magnet for job opportunities either – so are you up for the challenge?

Here is a little pic i took during the last coding competition i participated in

I like this kind of competitions because basically I get stuck with people from my “own kind” aka my productivity and tendency to learn new stuff in short amount of time becomes surprisingly high.

The elimination rounds kinda put everyone under pressure, so there is no trolling around – everyone is coding as if throwing magic spells on competitors with every functionality finished.

Also, it may be un-comfy – but competitions are must do once in a while because they act as a benchmark against your peers in the same area/market – you may want to know how far you can go in elimination rounds and identify skills you have to improve.

Besides, let’s not forget, it is all fun and games when you put all those geeks together – you are likely to make a few friends after a long night of coding together, so for sure, as a dev, Arabnet won’t be anything like your typical conference
